Office Products Industry News: Staples Buys Corporate Express

Staples completed a bid in July to buy Corporate Express NV on June 11, 2008. The deal became final when Staples increased its all-cash bid from 19.14 euros per share to 19.25, totaling 1.7 billion euros ($2.65 billion). By increasing the bid, Staples turned the takeover from hostile to friendly, avoiding significant turnover in the management of Corporate Express. The combined companies have annual revenue of $27 billion and more than 94,000 employees in 28 countries.
