Paper recycling hits record high

According to the American Forest & Paper Association, 56 percent of the paper consumed in America during 2007 was recovered for recycling. This all-time high of 54.3 million tons of paper recycled achieves an industry goal five years ahead of schedule. This increase over the 25 million tons of paper in 1990 equates to reducing emissions by more than 97 million metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent.
